Captions in every language for on-demand videos
Last updated: November 6, 2026
Your replays and Media Hub videos now get captions in all of your company's caption languages, not just English. Viewers choose a language from the player's CC menu, and you can review and fix captions in any language right in Media Hub.
How it works
English captions are created first. When a live event ends or you upload a video, Sequel transcribes it into English captions, as before.
Every caption language is translated automatically. The English captions are translated into each of your company's caption languages, the same languages you've chosen for live captions. Translating all languages usually takes a few minutes.
Viewers pick a language. The replay player and Media Hub embeds list every language in the CC menu.
You can fix any language. Edit, re-translate or restore captions in Media Hub, or ask Sequel AI to do it.

The Captions section
Open any video in Media Hub and scroll to Captions. There's one row per language, showing its status and where its captions came from.
Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
Ready | Captions are available to viewers |
Translating | A translation is in progress. Actions for that language are paused until it finishes. |
Not generated | No captions yet for this language (see "Older videos" below) |
Auto | English captions came from the automatic transcript |
AI Studio / Follows AI Studio | English captions are built from the video's AI Studio transcript and update when you fix it there |
Translated | Machine-translated from English |
Edited | Someone changed these captions by hand, in the editor or through Sequel AI |
Uploaded | Captions came from an uploaded SRT or VTT file |
A row may also say something like "12 captions may be too fast to read". That means some lines go by quickly at the speaker's pace, which is common in translations. Open the editor to shorten them if you'd like.
Each row's ⋯ menu has Download SRT, Download VTT, Upload SRT/VTT, Edit captions, Regenerate (translations only) and Restore earlier version. Videos with an AI Studio project also have Edit in AI Studio and Re-sync from AI Studio on the English row.
Older videos: generate translations
Videos recorded or uploaded before this update only have English captions. Click Generate languages in the Captions section to translate them into all of your caption languages. The rows show Translating, then Ready, usually within a few minutes.

Edit captions
On any language row, open the ⋯ menu and choose Edit captions.
Each caption shows its start time, end time and text. When you're editing a translation, the English original is shown beside each caption for reference.
Change the text or timing, then click Save. The button shows how many captions you changed.

Find and replace: type a word in Find to see every caption that contains it, enter a replacement, and click Replace all. Click Undo to reverse it before saving.
Timing: times use the format hh:mm:ss.mmm (for example 00:01:52.280). If a time isn't valid, the field shows an error and you can't save until it's fixed.
Editing English: when you save changes to the English captions, the translations update to match.
Good to know:
If someone else saves the same captions while you're editing, you'll be asked to reload the latest version instead of overwriting their changes.
If you close the editor with unsaved changes, you'll be asked whether to discard them.
Restore an earlier version
Every save keeps the previous version, so any change can be undone. Choose Restore earlier version, pick a version (each is labeled with its type and time, for example "Version 1 · Translated"), and click Restore. Nothing is deleted. The version you replaced stays in the list, so you can switch back later.
Regenerate a translation
Choose Regenerate on a language to translate it again from the current English. Use this after adding dictionary terms, or to discard manual changes. If the language was edited or uploaded by hand, you'll be asked to confirm first, and you can restore the replaced version afterwards.
Captions that follow AI Studio
If a video has an AI Studio project, its English captions can be built from the AI Studio transcript. The English row then shows Follows AI Studio, and corrections you make in AI Studio reach the captions, and then the translations, within a few minutes.
Edit in AI Studio opens the project in a new tab, so you can fix words at the source.
If you edit English directly in Media Hub, the row shows "Edited here, so AI Studio changes no longer update these captions." Your edits are protected from being overwritten.
Re-sync from AI Studio switches back to following AI Studio. If you've edited English by hand, you'll be asked to confirm first, because your edits will be replaced with the AI Studio text. You can restore them afterwards.

Company dictionary
Teach Sequel how to spell and translate your company's names and terms. Go to Brand → Brand kit → Dictionary, click Add term, then Save dictionary. For each term you can set:
Term: the correct spelling, for example a product or speaker name.
Heard as: common mis-hearings in transcripts. Press Enter after each one.
Don't translate: keeps the term exactly as written in every language, such as brand names.
Translations: your preferred word in specific languages.
Note: context for the AI, for example "our CEO's name".
Dictionary terms apply to new translations. To apply them to an existing video, choose Regenerate on each language.

Fix captions with Sequel AI
You can ask Sequel AI (under AI Agents) to check and fix a replay's captions. For example:
"What's wrong with the captions on my [video name] replay?" It lists each language and any problems.
"Replace [word] with [word] in every language." It makes the change and tells you how many captions changed in each language.
"Restore the previous Spanish captions."
Changes made by Sequel AI count as manual edits, so those languages show Edited.
What viewers see
In the replay player and Media Hub embeds, viewers open the CC menu and pick a language. Each language is shown in its own name (for example español, 中文). If the embed's language matches one of your caption languages, captions in that language turn on by default.

FAQ
Which languages do I get? Your company's caption languages, the same list used for live captions.
Why does a language say Edited when I didn't change it? Changes from Sequel AI, and restoring a version, count as edits. Choose Regenerate to return it to a fresh machine translation.
Why didn't my AI Studio fix appear in the captions? Check the English row. If it says "Edited here…", choose Re-sync from AI Studio. Otherwise, allow a few minutes.
