Embeddable Widgets: Customize and Connect Event Page Content from Sequel

Answering the question: "How can I build event page components from Sequel and embed it with my event embed code for faster delivery?"

Updated this week

Sequel Widgets allow you to build out event-related content as embeddable components. Event managers can build out speaker blocks, event grid, title and description, all from Sequel without having to wait for web team bandwidth.

This means you can get up and running with all the events your team has in mind in minutes. Not only that, you're not sacrificing communication for speed.

How it Works

First, you'll configure widgets you want and how you want them to look in the main Widgets area in left Navigation. These will be your "Widget Sets", both standalone Event Grid and ones connected to the event.

Choose from four types, each with it's own title:

  • Event Grid

  • Speaker Grid

  • Countdown

  • Event Description

("Intelligent Widgets" coming soon)

Then, within event settings, you'll choose these Widget Sets from the drop-down in the "Widgets" tab. A preview will guide you through all of it with options to see demo data, specific event data, and in light or dark mode.

Finally, when you implement the Sequel embed code for your event, the attached widget set will populate also!

Building Widget Sets

To utilize Widgets for your event, first navigate to the "Widgets" area in the left navigation bar of Sequel dashboard.

  1. Select "New Widget Set" on the top right.

  2. Name your set and choose the type: Attached or Standalone, and click "Create"

  3. This will open up the widget builder area. From here, select + New Widget on the left of the screen.

Once created, the set can be chosen from a drop-down on the "Widgets" tab of any event! Within the event, enhance each section with it's own title and make your content relevant and helpful.

Each widget's settings are pretty intuitive but let's dive into each type so you know all the options available to you!

Events Grid Widget (Standalone and Attached)

The event grid widget pulls events into a grid grouping of your choice. Choose how many cards you want to display and if you want to include future events or not.

A common use case for the Events Grid is "Past Events" or a "Resources Library."
In these cases, future events can be left out and the event grid embedded as a standalone. Binge-able library made easy!

This is the only type of widget available as a standalone embed. You can find the embed code for Standalone widget by selecting the "code" icon within the main Widgets area (outside of specific events since it's not attachable).

Speaker Widget

Speaker widget allows you to spotlight your speakers and link to their social profile.

The options for this widget come from the "Hosts" and "Presenters" added for the event. For internal hosts, you can hide them from the widget and keep the page relevant.

The speaker cards can be customized to match your brand or any other theme:

Choose whether to show the speaker photo, title, and/or LinkedIn for your speakers as the default for this set. The specifics of these elements are set within the event when applying the specific widget set.

Setting Speaker Info Within the Event

When applying a widget set with Speaker widget in it, you have options to set the content of the speaker as well as whether you want to hide or display the speaker.
A company logo can also be uploaded here.

You'll see a preview of your saved settings on the right:

Countdown Widget

The countdown widget is a simple element of the page that can bring excitement to your next event. You can choose to hide the countdown after event starts and to hide seconds in the countdown.

Of course, the colors for the text, border, etc. can be customized to match your brand.

Event Description

SEO-friendly and connectable, event description widget lets you inform the audience, build brand, and optimize for traffic.

Within the Event:

If you've already entered an event description in the "Details" tab of an event, that'll flow over automatically or you can choose to enter custom text.

Customize Look and Feel of Widgets

No matter which widget you choose, matching your brand colors and switching the look from Light to Dark mode is easy. When building Widget Sets in the main navigation area (not within specific events), you can set the theme you'd like the widget to take and what colors that theme should have.

For example, Dark Mode for an Event Grid below:

Embedding Event

Once Widgets are set for your event and you're happy with how it looks, time to embed your event on your site. Use the embed code for the registration type of your choice and you'll see the chosen Widget set populate with your event!
