Pre-Promotion Check: Testing Full Registration Flow for Seamless Audience Experience

Answering the question: "What's the best way to test Sequel event setup for successful registration launch and registrant experience?"

Sequel makes it easy to get setup regardless of your use case.
Whether you're using Sequel registration or 3rd party registration, a full test of registration from an incognito window is always recommended and the responsibility of the event runner. Of course, feel free to ask your CSM to help as needed!

Let's dive into the best practices for this so you have peace of mind and your attendees have a smooth, seamless experience registering and accessing your events!

Checklist for Event Setup Completion

First, here's a quick list of what all should be complete/confirmed within your event setup prior to testing. This is general and yours can include more steps depending on use case, needs, etc.

  1. Registration type is set to the type of form used: Sequel or 3rd party (for HS, Marketo, etc. forms).

  2. Embed URL has the URL of the specific event page where the event will be watched.

  3. Emails options reflect the timing and the templates you'd like to use.

  4. Replay options in email tab are set for post-event flip over to on-demand as applicable.

  5. Themes and Features for engagement are what you'd like them to be. Turning off poll, Q&A, etc. if you don't want them showing.

  6. CRM information is filled in, including status mappings, depending on CRM.

  7. Custom registration questions and UTMs are mapped for CRM flow (Sequel registration*).

After finishing your event setup, run through a quick test to confirm attendees can actually enter the event — not just register for it.

Testing Steps Best Practice

  1. Open your event page in an incognito window!

    1. This simulates the real attendee experience with no admin session interfering.

  2. Register with a test email, or any email you haven't used prior

    1. Doing this will allow you to use a "new" email address and still receive the registration confirmation and any other communications from Sequel in your normal inbox.

    2. Important: Do not click on "Join Session" or anything else after you register. Leave the page.

  3. Check your inbox for confirmation email

    1. Make sure the template looks the way you want.

  4. Click the join link directly from the email

    1. The link carries a unique joinCode for each registrant and that'll get registrants directly into the event.

  5. Confirm you land inside the event will full access to the component

    1. You should see all the engagement options you have set for the event and the event thumbnail.

    2. At this step, if you don't see the component and are rerouted to the form, check with your web team to ensure that you have all parts of our embed code on your site.

    3. The common issue with seeing the registration form again is our search parameters are not included in the code. It is always best practice to use the code as it's provided in the Embed tab so as to not cause issues.

  6. Confirm your record came through in connected CRM

    1. This helps to ensure data flow for registrations are set as well.

Clean Up Test Records

As applicable, you may want to remove your test registrations to keep the participant table cleaner. To do this,

  1. Navigate to Admin Dashboard → Event Settings→ Participants tab,

  2. Find the tree dots next to the test record and remove.
