Certifications: Qualify Attendees and Issue Certificates Based on Watch Threshold

How to design and distribute certificates to qualified attendees through email, experience-driven download, and manually issuance.

Updated today

Knowledge shares, training sessions, workshop courses, and continuing education webinars - acknowledging live engagement and high-intent watch time can now be managed easily through Sequel!

Sequel Certifications provides teams the ability to:

  • Customize certificate design.

  • Add dynamic fields for event and attendee information (like watch time).

  • Set watch threshold for certification achievement.

  • Show pop-up with certificate download during event.

  • Email certificate access or notification of miss.

  • See watch time and issue certificate manually if needed.

Let's dive into how you can utilize this powerful feature.

Certifications are an add-on feature for annual plans. Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager for pricing!

Certifications start with templates built out at the "global" level. These templates will then be applied at the event level with setting for threshold and progress bar visibility.

Create Template: Certificate PDF or Image Base

First, navigate to the Certifications area in the left navigation bar. You'll see all your certificate templates in this area and information on how many events are using that template.

From this area, you'll build the "base" certificate template to use for any number of live events.

As with other platform features, the three dots next to the certificate template provide more options like renaming and duplication or cloning. The eye icon, common in the platform, will show a preview of the certificate with mock information populated.

Certifications are only for Live Events at this time.
If you have Simulive or On-Demand use cases, please share! Your CSM is always taking feedback and will submit a feature request on your behalf.

To start building your certificate template, select "+New Certificate" to start with a blank canvas.

You can always start with a Sequel template which has pre-loaded fields!

Once the editor opens, you'll see options for types of information you can add:

  • Event information: Event name, date

  • Attendee information: Attendee name, email, company, title, minutes watched

Start by adding a PDF or image background for your certificate (the two bottom tiles on the left). You can resize to full width as needed.

  1. Next, add in the information you want to show on the certificate and align it to your branding needs.

    1. Click on the option you want and you'll see the field show up on the "canvas" in the middle of the screen.

      1. Options for size, color, centering, etc. are visible for the selected field on the right side of the builder.

      2. Control the behavior of added fields: mark as required, editable, etc.

    2. Move, add, and edit fields until your "canvas" is complete and you are happy with the preview.

      1. To preview, click on the "eye" icon on the top right next to Save.

  2. Once you have the "base" certificate with the detail you'll want to populate from the event-level, click "Save Certificate" and give it a name that's easy to identify.

Now, it's time to bring it alive within your event!

Apply Certifications to Event

Now that the template is ready, time to turn it ON for an event.

To turn certifications on and set threshold for issuing certificates:

  1. Navigate to the new "Certifications" tab within event settings.

  2. Toggle ON "Live Certifications" which will present options.

  3. Choose the template created, set watch time threshold (how many minutes of the live event needs to be watched before earning the certificate).

  4. You can also choose to show attendees their certification progress or leave it off to encourage longer participation.

Now that the "module" is ON - time to ensure the email template for certifications looks and speaks the way you want!

Customize Certification Email Templates

You can edit and customize the email your attendees receive, both ones that achieved the certification and ones that did not.

Ensure the toggle for both email types are toggled on in the "Emails" tab of the event. To preview what the email may look like, you can use the "Test Email" button or "Paper plane" icon to send yourself a test email.

Attendee Experience of Certification

Now that setup is all done, let's dive into what the attendees see during the certification event when threshold is met.

If the "show progress bar" option is on, the attendee will see progress percentage in relation to the overall event duration. For example, a 60 minute event with a threshold of 45 minutes will show a "Success" message with button to download the certificate at 75% mark.

Once the right percentage is achieved, a pop-up ensures excitement and ease as attendees don't have to wait to download their certification PDF. The content of this pop-up cannot be customized at this time (but don't hesitate to share feedback with your Customer Success Manager!)

Post-Event Analytics and Admin Actions

Just like engagement and conversion data, events with certification ON will show metrics across your audience within post-event analytics area.

From here, admins can also control communications on certificates to attendees.

Need to issue a certificate to a VIP or other needs? That's possible from the post-event Certification view within Event Analytics where you'll see a familiar participant table with options under the 3 dots to:

  1. Send certificates via email to individual or entire attendee list

  2. Download certificate

  3. Issue certificate manually

That's it! Congratulations on conducting your first certification event.

Note: Certification data does not currently get sent to connected CRMs. However, you can download your certification results which will include name, email, watch time in minutes, and certification status.

Excited for this feature but need a different threshold (participate in Q&A, answer quiz poll, etc.)? Don't hesitate to share! We are actively collecting feedback on this already powerful feature so you can get more out of Sequel!
