Handling past events in a Series

This guide explains how to configure past sessions within an event series, including how to give users access to replays, and when to use a standalone widget vs. your event series embed.

Which scenario applies to you?

The right setup depends on two things: whether you have any future sessions coming up, and what registration experience you want to provide.

Make sure you understand how to set events as replays by reviewing this article here: OnDemand Replays

Scenario A: Mix of past and future sessions

If your event series has upcoming sessions AND sessions that have already happened, users can register through the standard event series flow and access past replays through your event grid widget.

Option 1: You want users to register for all sessions (simplest)

This works well when you're want the users to be registered for the full event series registration modal.

  • A net-new visitor clicks Register and sees the All Sessions view

  • They receive a confirmation email for the upcoming session

  • Once inside, the event grid widget (set to Past Events) shows all past sessions

  • Clicking any past session card takes them directly into that session - no extra landing pages or embed codes needed

  • If a replay is set on a past session, it will play automatically

What you need:

  1. your event series embed on your landing page

  2. a widget set with an Event Grid component filtered to Past Events

  3. replay content added to each past session

Option 2: You want users to register for any and all sessions

Use this if you want net-new registrations for individual past sessions to be able to just watch the past session they had navigated to and registration for future sessions in the series to be handled separately.

This requires separate landing pages for past sessions.

  1. Create a new landing page for your past session(s) in the Event Series

  2. In Sequel, go to the individual session and copy the Session Embed Code (not the series embed) - paste this onto your new landing page

  3. In the session settings, update the Embed URL to point to your new landing page instead of the event series page, then save

Scenario B: All sessions are in the past

When there are no future sessions, you want to use the session embed on new landing pages.

  1. Create a landing page for each past session

  2. In Sequel, go to the individual session and copy the Session Embed Code (not the series embed) - paste this onto the corresponding landing page

  3. In the session settings, update the Embed URL to point to the new landing page, then save

Enabling binge-watch access for past events (cross-registration)

If you want users to register once and access all past sessions: enable cross-registration on each session you want included. Once active, a registered user can browse the grid and access any session without registering again.

Note: this is most recommended for Series that only have past sessions.
