Quickstart Guide: Embedding Sequel Events on Owned Domains

Answering the question: "How do I get events embedded on my site/landing page? What are my registration options with 3rd party forms?"

Updated this week

At the core of Sequel's value is the native embedding of any event; virtual, hybrid and in-person. Our embedding method is build in a way that makes it easy, flexible, and scalable.

This guide will walk you through what you need to know as you're beginning your website-embedded event journey.

πŸ’‘ If you'd like to get up and running with a Sequel Landing Page and a customized slug in no time, learn how here.

The Basics of Sequel Embedded Events

Before we get into the specifics, let's understand what an embedded experience is made of, i.e. embedding a Sequel event or event series.

A. The embed code = the event component.

So, what you see in your event settings preview of the event is the look of the event experience on page.

  1. Do not alter the embed code or omit piece of it. Each piece controls important experience aspects like passing of UTM parameters and unique join codes.

  2. Once embedded, the event component is "live" and usable. Of course, whether or not it's findable is based on placement, promotion, CMS settings, etc.

  3. If you see names within the "People" tab of your event component from backstage, don't worry! That is expected and means that those people are currently registered and accessing the component.

    1. This is a great opportunity to publish resources for download or have a poll open. You'll see the data from these engagements after the event!

    2. You can also choose to turn off all engagement options until x hours before the event for a cleaner, controlled experience (usually recommended for high compliance and regulated industries)

B. The embed URL inside each Sequel event = link in emails to watch event.

Regardless of whether your registration form uses Sequel registration or third-party registration, the URL entered within the event is the link tied to the "Join event" AND "Watch replay" buttons within the reminder and post-event emails.

That means, the Sequel embed URL in the Registration tab sets the "watch" page of the event for registrants.

Recommended: always conduct a final test of your event URL(s) for a smooth flow from an incognito tab and using another email (or '+ addressing'). Ensuring you get the right experience ensures a stress-free and fun event for all!

C. The Sequel component/embed code does not affect event page content.

Sequel event embed code does not control what title, speaker promotion, copy, sponsor logos, etc. that are part of your event page. The event page is controlled entirely by your CMS or other landing page solutions.

The Sequel event component controls aspects such as event thumbnail, registration questions, registration copy, and engagement experience (Chat, Q&A, Polls, Surveys, etc.)

Embedding in Action

Here's an example of a seamlessly embedded, customized event component with website design to match! And an example of a "Past Webinars" grid as well.

Embedding with Sequel Registration

The default registration type chosen for newly created events is Sequel registration (unless cloned from template). In addition to the basics, this registration method allows for progressive fields, capacity limits and waitlisting, cross-event registration, and of course, the time-saving power of event series.

It also allows for direct mapping of custom registration questions to CRM fields.

Below provides a high-level guide of embedding with Sequel registration.

Some other use-case deep dives: HubSpot LP, WordPress, Webflow

To embed your event with Sequel registration,

  1. Open the page editor in your web builder, HubSpot landing page, or gated community.

  2. In another tab, navigate to the Sequel event you want to embed and into event Settings.

  3. Conduct a final check of your settings to ensure that URL, emails, and replay are set to your liking.

  4. In the Embed tab, click on the "Copy Code" button within the middle area (#2). This will grab the embed code to embed the event on any page.

  5. Inside your page builder, paste the code into any Custom Code, Rich Text, or Embed component (depending on builder) and hit Publish. You should see the component load and can send a test registration through!

Embedding with Third-Party Registration Form

It is easy to use third-party forms with Sequel events if you need. Data flow is not affected by the type of registration and Sequel registration provides ease of setup, use, and flexibility.

If using third-party registration form, the embed will only show an access view, not the form itself. This is because the registration itself will happen outside of the Sequel component, on wherever you have the form script.

πŸ’‘ Don't worry about this view! Since attendees will come to the Sequel event component through email links, they'll be navigated to the event itself and won't see the "Join Code" message. Even so, the join code is provided in all event emails for easy access in case of human error in implementation, etc.

The third party form is rendered through combination of code depending on the type of experience you'd like your attendees to have. However, generally, the Sequel embed is built with a listener for connected form submissions which trigger the entrance into Sequel email flows and everything else.

Much more on that for each Marketo, HubSpot, and Salesforce methods.

Embedding Registration Form and Event on Different Pages

If you'd like to have interested attendees register on a "form" page and then, watch the event and replay later on an "event" page, this is possible with all types of registration Sequel offers.

For third-party setup of this, please refer to the above section.

For Sequel registration with this separate experience,

  1. Navigate to event Embed tab

  2. For the first numbered step (#1), switch the embed type to "Registration form only." This will add a small piece of code to the embed code you'll copy in step 2.

  3. Click "Copy embed code" and add to your Registration page.

  4. Now, time to add the "Fully featured embed" code, which is the only option that has the actual video component for the event. This is where your attendees will actually view the event.

    1. Switch to the "Fully featured embed" type.

    2. Copy the new code.

    3. Enter embed code into the "Watch" page where you want to conduct your actual event and where you want the replay to live.

      1. Reminder: the event and on-demand replay live in the same component/area! This is one of the major benefits of using Sequel to conduct events. In a simple toggle, you can turn your live webinar area into a post-event ready content powerhouse.

    4. Important: Add the URL of the "watch" page into the Registration tab of event so emails direct everyone to the right place.

    5. As always, test the flow from the registration link to the email to the watch page to showing up in your CRM, if applicable.

This setup is great for use cases like:

  • Creating exclusivity. Keep content/watch page less accessible than registration page. Combined with registration cap and other settings, this can really create some demand for access to your events.

  • Traffic isn't a goal: The event is just about the content and the engagement and perusing website content doesn't matter to you. This keeps a more focused experience for the event and replay.

  • It's what you're used to! An event happening in the same "real estate" as registration form is new and sometimes, a mind-blowing change for people. Maintain what people are used to while leveraging the power for Sequel for program goals.
