Unique Join Code Enforcement

Learn how to prevent multiple people from entering an event using the same registrant's join link

Unique Join Code Enforcement is a company-wide setting that stops more than one person from entering an event using the same join code. This is useful in cases where a confirmation email gets forwarded to someone else - with this setting on, only the original registrant can use the link to get in.

How It Works

Every registrant is issued a unique join code as part of their personal event link. Normally, if that link is shared or forwarded, anyone with it could join the event as that registrant.

With Unique Join Code Enforcement turned on, once a join code has been used to enter an event, any additional attempt to enter with that same code is blocked. The person attempting to join a second time will see a message letting them know someone has already used that link, along with options to try again or register with a new email.

This works the same way whether someone is joining directly through Sequel or through an embedded event on your own website - they'll be redirected to the appropriate embed URL and see the same block message.

Enabling Unique Join Code Enforcement

  1. Go to Settings > Event Defaults.

  2. Find Unique Join Code Enforcement and toggle it on.

This setting applies company-wide across your events once enabled.

Letting Hosts Bypass Enforcement

Hosts often need to join an event from multiple devices or locations using the same host link. To make sure enforcement doesn't lock hosts out of their own events, there's a separate setting to always let hosts in, regardless of whether their join code has already been used.

  1. In the same Unique Join Code Enforcement settings, enable Always Let Hosts In.

  2. This overrides join code enforcement specifically for host links, so multiple hosts can enter using the same link without being blocked.

What Attendees See

If someone tries to enter an event with a join code that's already been used, they'll see a message letting them know someone is already using that link - this is configured in the settings.

From there, they can:

  • Try Again, in case the original registrant has left the event

  • Register with another email, which takes them directly to the event's registration page to sign up as a new attendee

This same experience applies whether the attendee is joining through a link directly or through an event embedded on an external website.
