Individual Webinar vs. Event Series: Which Should You Use?

Individual webinar or Event Series? Learn when to run a one-off webinar on its own and when to group sessions into a Sequel Event Series with shared settings, multi-session registration, and series-wide analytics.

Sequel lets you run sessions as individual webinar or group them in an Event Series. Both use the same virtual stage, session types, and setup options. The difference is whether your sessions stand on their own or belong to a connected program with shared settings, shared registration, and series-level reporting.

This guide explains what each one does, when to use it, and how to choose.

The Short Answer

Use an individual webinar when the session is a one-off, like a product launch webinar, a customer panel, or a single workshop. It has its own settings, registration, and embed code.

Use an Event Series when several sessions belong to the same program, like office hours, a multi-week training, or the same webinar repeated across time zones. You set defaults once, registrants can sign up for multiple sessions at a time, and you can report on the program as a whole.

Individual Webinar

An individual webinar is a standalone event with its own virtual stage. Everything about it, from registration to emails to CRM mappings, is configured for that event alone.

Best for

  • One-off webinars, launches, panels, or workshops

  • Events with a unique audience, format, or CRM campaign

  • Events that don't need to be promoted or reported on alongside other events

How it works

  • Session types. Individual webinar can be Live, Simulive, or On-Demand.

  • Own settings. Registration questions, emails, participants, CRM mappings, and replay settings are configured in that event's Event Settings.

  • Own registration and embed. Each event has its own registration and its own embed code for your website.

Event Series

An Event Series is a parent event that holds a collection of sessions. Each session runs at its own date and time and works like an individual webinar once you open it, but it inherits defaults from the series.

Best for

  • Recurring programs like office hours, onboarding sessions, or monthly product updates

  • Multi-week or multi-month programs where sessions are spread out

  • The same content repeated at different times for different time zones

  • Launch programs, like a book launch with several events

How it works

  • Shared defaults. Event Series Settings hold defaults for every session, including registration questions, replay and local recording settings, and CRM mappings. Each session can override these when needed.

  • Mixed session types. A series can include Live, Simulive, and Recurring sessions.

  • Session selection at registration. The registration form lets registrants choose which sessions to attend. You can allow registration for all sessions, or limit registrants to specific sessions (useful when the same content repeats).

  • Future sessions. Registrants who choose all sessions receive invites to sessions added later. Registrants only see current and future sessions. Registering for all sessions does not register anyone for past sessions.

  • One embed for the program. The series embed shows upcoming sessions in one place. Each session also has its own embed code, so past sessions can be promoted individually or collected in an on-demand library with the Event Grid widget.

  • Series-level unsubscribe. Registrants can unsubscribe from the series, which keeps future invites relevant.

  • Series-wide analytics. The Analytics view shows conversion across sessions, live vs. on-demand performance, top sessions, and top leads across the series.

How to Choose

Ask yourself three questions:

Will this content repeat or continue over time?
If yes, use an Event Series. If it's a one-time event, use an individual webinar.

Do I want registrants to sign up for more than one session at once?
If yes, use an Event Series. Individual webinars each have their own separate registration.

Do I need to report on these sessions as one program?
If yes, use an Event Series to get series-wide analytics, including top leads across sessions.

A few common scenarios:

  • Single product launch webinar: Individual webinar

  • Quarterly customer panel with a different audience each time: Individual webinar

  • Weekly demo or office hours: Event Series

  • 8-week training program: Event Series

  • Same webinar at three times for different regions: Event Series, with registration limited to specific sessions

If your sessions run back to back as one continuous program, such as a conference with breakout tracks, a Virtual Summit is the better fit.
